A Homeless English Movie Club

It seems like we’re going to have to rent a place downtown.  Please be praying for a place to have it.  We’re also starting to run short on time.  By now, the students that we want to reach have probably already gotten their class schedules and have filled up most of their time slots.  College is grueling here in Ukraine.  That’s your whole life, if you’re a student.  Please pray for people with open hearts, minds, and schedules.

We’ve been watching a couple of different movies in preparation for the English movie club.  If you have suggestions for good, clean movies with somewhat of a moral (e.g. the Perfect Gift or something like that… not necessairily a “Christian” movie, but still a good one), please send them to me at the e-mail address on the right (where it talks about the newsletter).  I’d really appreciate that.

Sashko’s visit and a sore throat…

A friend of ours named Sashko from Sumy way on the other side of Ukraine just came to visit us and stayed in my apartment for the past few days.  He was here from Friday night until Wednesday.  Lindsay Pratt is his girlfriend, so he was pretty much with her 12 hours out of the day.  haha…  I would be, too, if I were in his place…  Anyways, on the second to last day of his visit, I started getting sick.  This morning was the first day that I felt a little better… like, actually better and not just on a medicine… feeling better… thing.  I’m not sure how to put that.

Can a man own God?

Psa 8:1  To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of David. O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

“O LORD our Lord…”

God is a God that wants to be owned.  What does that mean?  He desires a personal relationship with you to the point that you can say, “This is my God.”  Yes, you can acknowledge that He is the God of others, but you come to such a personal relationship that is not primarily corporate but private.  Too many people have a primarily corporate relationship with God.

Search your heart, and ask God to search it for you (Psalm 139:23).  Ask Him if you are having a corporate relationship with Him or if you have a private relationship with Him.  You should know the difference in your relationships with other people.  There are those that you only see at church, that you only see when you are with other friends.  Those are your corporate relationships.  Then, there are those that you call and ask to come over to your house, or that you talk to by initiative.  Those are your private relationships.  God wants to have a personal, private relationship with you.  He wants to share His heart, His secrets, and His ambitions with you (Genesis 18).  He wants to let you in on His plan for the world.

Let Him be your God.

Downtown L’viv…

I just saw a very cool show downtown.  A bunch of people were waving torches around, breathing fire, and dancing.  I tried to talk to a couple of people while I was down there, but no one spoke English.

I’ve found, when I’m trying to just talk to people, unless I really need something, it’s really best just to start with English.  It’s kinda funny, but people are nicer to me when I start with English… pretty consistently.  Although, today, I didn’t find anyone that spoke it, and I got a lot of weird looks when I was asking, “Do you speak English?”
